Drawing, pencil, 22 x 14,5 cm, paper, pencil numbered 6 at top right (traces of mounting on verso).
Delicately sketched portrait of a woman with folded hands. Gleyre (1806-1874) was a Swiss painter who lived and worked in France. He took over the studio of Paul Delaroche and taught many artists who became prominent, including Monet, Renoir, Sisley, Whistler, etc.
