Contemp. mottled calf, gilt decorated spine with raised bands, red sprinkled edges (sl. cracking on the spine, sm. lack on the lower turn-in, sl. faded gilding).
Reissue (1st ed.: 1625) of this interesting small work in which Naudé (1600-1653), librarian to Richelieu and Mazarin and physician to Louis XIII, defends scientists wrongly accused of magic or witchcraft, including Pythagoras, Democritus, Aristotle, Geber, Raymond Lulle, Arnauld de Villeneuve, Paracelsus, Agrippa, Bacon, Albert the Great, etc. With a contemp. engr. front. on a loose leaf.
