Lot description
4to: 102 pp. (17 x 23,5 cm), text (no deletions or alterations) within a double ink frame.
Contemp. olive green morocco, triple gilt-fillet on boards with gilt corner tool, paste-downs covered with gilt blok-printed (i.e. star) on white paper, gilt flat spine, a.e.g. (rubbed, corners sl. dulled, faded spine, lower caps broken, joints sl. split).
Elegant calligraphed manuscript copied for the "marquis Dauvet", likely Louis-Nicolas d'Auvet, Field & Army-Marshal of King Louis XV, who fought on many battlefields and died in 1781. Title written in a different style than the text which consists of an interlinear translation Latin-French of 31 hymns celebrating religious feasts: Pentecost, Lent, Passion, Easter, Conception, Annunciation, etc. (Latin on left side, French on the opposite side). It ends with two sonnets in French, on Grace and on Judgment Day.
