2 vol., 4to: [2]-xv-529-[1], [2]-xv-472 pp.

Publ. binding: half brown morocco with white vellum boards, spines with raised bands, gilt title (light traces of wear). Very good copy.

First & deluxe edition, limited to 250 copies (n. 61), printed on large paper and signed by Stanley (vol. I). This ed. is amply ill. with 6 original etchings by M.G. Montbard (for the deluxe edition exclusively), 38 full-page pl. with helio-gravures, 150 woodcuts, 3 coloured folding maps, 1 profile sketch and 1 facsimile of some pages of Stanley's notebook. All engr. are printed on China; the helio-gravures and the etchings protected by a leaf of silk paper. They are made by Cooper, Krakow, Barbant, Werdmuller, etc. mostly from photographs of Carreras, Montbard, Forestier, Riou, etc. Complete set.
