4to: xxxiv pp.; 31 (fold.) pl. (large tear in 1st fold. map, text block a bit browned).
Contemp. mottled calf, gilt decorated spine with 5 raised bands (upper joint part. broken, spine, edges and corners used).
Historical atlas with 31 engr. maps by H. Godin, incl. a general map of Greece and its islands, the environs of Athens, Phocis and Dorida, Thessaly, Plato and his disciples at Cape Sounion, the Cyclades etc. Originally intended as a supplement to J.-J. Barthélemy's fictional travel journal of the Scythian sage Anacharsis (4th c. BCE), with, according to the author, Jean-Denis Barbié du Bocage (1760-1825), maps that are not reduced or copied but that are different from all known maps. Interesting edition, in fact a counterfeit (1st ed.: Paris, 1788) published by the political newspaper press of the Liège "patriots" during the Brabant Revolution.
