Contemp. overl. vellum, flat spine titled in ink, red edges (almost loose, ties gone). Good copy.
Early ed. (1st Florence 1587) of a work by the Italian Jesuit Maffei (1533-1603) on the Portuguese conquests and the Jesuit stations in India, the East Indies, and the region of the Arabic Sea to about 1557. Book VI deals with China, and book XII is mainly concerned with Japan. The added letters about or from Japan were written between 1549 and 1574. Woodcut mark on title. Without world map.
