Lot description
Drawing, pen and brown ink, framing lines in pen and brown ink, 20 x 19 cm, laid paper with watermark (foolscap), unsigned (foxing throughout).
Two men sitting in an interior, engaged in conversation. The overall composition relates to a drawing of 1655 from the Rembrandt workshop, now in the Albertina in Vienna (inv. 8792), identified as a representation of Christ and Nicodemus. Our sheet shows a similar confidence in line and simplicity of design found in many Rembrandt drawings of late 1660s.
