Fourth ed. (of 5) of the editions called "alla testina" because of Machiavelli's portrait on the titles. The editions "alla testina" were the first complete of the works of Machiavelli. The first is dated 1550 but was actually published between 1610 and 1619 in Geneva as the four others, which were published between 1628 and 1670. The publisher probably used the subterfuge of the date (i.e. 1550) to defeat censorship as Machiavelli's works were put on the Index in 1559. And because they were forbidden in Italy, they were published in Geneva. In our copy, the first title is dated 1650 and the others 1550.
