Lot description
Large almost square broadsheet (ca. 56 x 53 cm), with a large (ca. 35 x 51 cm) engr. map and views of inundations, by Jan Smit.
In good condition.
Splendid plate showing the inundation of December 1740 - January 1741 between Arnhem and Culemborg, with on the front the chain mill, people and horses, on the background the inundated land between Moerdijk, Gorinchem, Rossum and Waspik. Below the engraving the explanatory legend, lettered "A-S" and numbered "1-66". The 4 plates are mostly found separately.
