Lot description

Folio: [2 (of 12)]-(345-483) pp.; 35 (of 93) + 1 pl., lavishly hand-coloured (engr. title, text lvs missing: *2r-6v, A-Z6, 2A-2F4, margins soiled).

Contemp. blind-stamped calf, spine and covers (sl. used).

1st edition published in the Northern Netherlands and based upon the 1582 Plantin edition, but with all copperplates newly engraved. The text by François de Belleforest was revised by Petrus Montanus. Incomplete copy that starts with "La description de Flandres". All plates required for the remaining text volume are present, except for the often missing "Dunkerque-2". Also, this copy has 1 pl. added: a 2nd engr. of Ostend.
