Sm. 4to: [16]-351-[1] pp. (some min. spotting, cut a little short at top).
Later red shagreen binding, richly gilt flat spine, covers with giltruled border, a.e.g., gilt sides, gilt inside dentelles, decor. endpapers. Very good copy in a nice binding.
Uncommon Dutch trsl. of a Latin treatise (1st 1637) on art in Antiquity by Fr. Junius (1591-1677): “a great compilation which explores the labyrinth of Western aesthetic memory” (Libr. Droz). Prelims include a letter by P.P. Rubens (1 August 1637). Full-page portrait of Junius by W. Hollar after Van Dyck facing p. 1. Full-page woodcut (at end) with the statue of Laurens Koster and a view of Haarlem, together with a hommage by A. Roman to Koster’s invention of printing in 1430 (!). Ref. STCN (i.a.
