Lot description
Drawing, pen and black ink with white, grey and brown wash, 16,5 x 14,5 cm, grey laid paper, signed at lower left "Jacobus Palma f." (trimmed to the border, laid down on mount, small tear at upper margin, repaired hole at upper left).
Under passe-partout, under wooden frame with label on verso of "Librairie d'Art G. Zazzarini, Antwerp" (not studied outside frame).
Diogenes in his barrel. The schematic and sketchy lines, the use of washes and the figure type all remind of attributed or signed drawings by Jacopo Palma (ca. 1548-1628). Compare, for example, his St John the Baptist kneeling in the collection of the British Museum (inv. 1946,0713.422).
