Under passe-partout and glass frame (not studied outside frame).
Intended as a design for "Fantaisies décoratives", a series of 48 illustrated texts, published between 1886 and 1887 by Charles Gillot in Paris. Habet-Dys (1850-1930) was mostly known for his Art-Nouveau designs of glass-ware, but also made drawings such as this one, which betrays a clear influence of Japanese art, popularised by Bing in the 1880s.
Joined: Nixon, Kathleen - A cassowary with chicks. Drawing, pen and black ink, grey wash, 27 x 32 cm, wove paper, unsigned. Under passe-partout and frame (not studied outside frame). (2 pcs)
