Live auction - Lot 392
Lot description
Etching and engraving, 49 x 37,6 cm, vellum paper, signed in plate at lower margin "gravé par Philip: Hackert 1802" (sm. prick holes in corners).
Wonderful large landscape etching by Hackert, after a drawing which he made near Naples four years earlier. Part of series of plates with representations of the Bay of Naples. The subjects are unconventional, as Hackert clearly felt that the trees and vegetation, which dominate the compositions, demanded a fresher approach than that of the professional printmaker.
