8vo: [16]-651-[5] pp. (front. underlaid, title rep., blank bottom corner f. Dd3 torn off, sm. tear in bl. margin f. Pp1 rep., bound a bit tight).
Mod. gilt-ruled leather, gilt-titled spine with 4 raised bands.
Rare devotional work, nicely illustrated with an engr. front. showing a bleeding Christ, full-page engr. arms of the dedicatee J.F. Van Beugen, bishop of Antwerp and 8 full-page engr. plates by J. van Sande, C. Galle, P. de Jode en Ph. de Mallery, after Nicolaas van der Horst, a pupil of Rubens. They intend to picture the sufferings of Christ in contrast with the earthly pleasures of courtiers. The pl. had been used before in Puget de la Serre's "Brevière des courtisans" (Brussels, 1630). Woodcut arms on title.
