Lot description
Engraving and etching, 45,5 x 38 cm, laid paper, signed "Io: August Corvinus sculpsit" (sl. toned, sl. foxing).
Under wooden frame (not studied outside frame).
Nice plate from a series (56 pl.) on the War of the Spanish Succession (1701-1714), depicting the surrender of the cities of Flanders and Brabant to Charles VI, Habsburg Emperor, after the battle of Ramillies (1706). The central scene of the surrender of Brussels is surrounded by views in cartouche of the other defeated cities (Bruges, Damme, Leuven, Lier, Antwerp, Mechelen, Deinze, etc.).
