Lot description

3 drawings on 2 ff. (various conditions).

1. "S. Peeters clooster". Pencil, laid paper, 26,5 x 44 cm. Ramparts incl. the "Wollendriestoren" or "Tour aux Laines" or "Grosse Tour", demolished in 1807. The Sint-Pieter ter Siecken leprosery, founded in 1174, became a cloister, before becoming a hospital in 1783 (current Sint-Pieter hospital).-- 2. On verso: "Onse Lieve Vrouw ter Sieken". View of the Halle Gate with a windmill in the foreground, some drafts.-- 3. The village of Sint-Gillis with view of the Halle Gate, the ramparts and a windmill. Pencil, laid paper, 31 x 50 cm. Laid down on paper. There were three windmills on the territory of Saint-Gilles. All three were destroyed about 1672, for the construction of Fort Monterey. Our drawings could therefore date from before that time, the pen captions would be later.
