Lot description

5 vol., 8vo: xxxii-464, vi-624, xxviii-461, xxiv-496, viii-472 pp. (spotted and sl. soiled throughout, errors in pagination of the prelim. lvs in the 4th vol.).

Contemp. half brown sheep, paper on covers (corners sl. def.), gilt orn. flat spines, red leather title labels.

First edition of the last work produced by the author, unfinished at his death and completed by F. Buisson for the 3rd and 4th part and by Ph.-J. Roux for the 5th part. Bichat (1771-1802) is one of the principal heroes of the medical revolution at the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th c. The French anatomist and pathologist is known as the father of modern histology (microscopic anatomy).
