Later edition (first 1703) of this important work on women's health by the English physician Freind (1675-1728), belonging to the mechanical school of physicians. A school of physicians in 17th-c. Italy who tried to apply the laws of mathematics and mechanics in order to understand the functioning of the human body. In this work Freind focusses on menstruation, which he argues, results from a plethora in the body which escapes because of the upright posture of humans. It is one of the earliest separate works on the subject. Title in red & black.
