Lot description
Drawing, charcoal, heightened with white and red, 51 x 40 cm, brown paper, signed in charcoal at lower left corner "William Ablett".
Under gilt wooden frame.
Antique neo-classical scene of three women, one holding a torch, in a landscape with a Greek Doric temple in the background. Possibly the Three Graces. Since we count nine figures in total, they could also represent the Nine Muses. William Ablett (1877 - 1936) was a self-taught artist working in Paris by the late 19th century.
