4 vol., 8vo: xvi-765-[1], xvi-656, [2]-657, [2]-556-ccxiii pp.; 24 fold. pl. or tables (sl. foxing, some pp. sl. browned, occ. ink stains in vol. I, marg. staining to 1 pl. in vol. II, marg. holes in p. 529 of vol. IV due to the weakness of paper).
Contemp. marbled sheep, gilt orn. spines with raised bands, red edges (scratches, some joints splitting, head of vol. IV missing, sm. lack to tail of vol. II). Good copy.
First edition of this entomological dictionary based on Linné's descriptions of insects, esp. in his "Fauna Suecica" (1745), and gathered by the French naturalist Charles-Joseph de Villers (1724-1810). He also added discoveries of Étienne Louis Geoffroy, Giovanni Antonio Scopoli, Charles de Geer, Franz von Paula Schranck and Johann Christian Fabricius. Illustrated with 12 fold. engr. plates and 12 fold. tables.
